Jim started the opioid addiction program to help inmates get and remain clean.  This program has been so successful that it is being duplicated statewide, as is Jim’s license restoration initiative.  Both programs, the first of their kind in our state.

Since 2008, Jim has had the highest peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.  He also serves as Vice President of the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys.

Jim attended Duke University on a lacrosse scholarship.  After graduation, he earned his law degree from New York Law School while working part-time.

Jim finds time to give back to the community as head coach for the Men's lacrosse team at RJ Reynolds High School. Jim also has served the community on the boards of Hospice, Exchange/SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), the Industries for the Blind and Senior Services board.

Jim and his wife, Dr. Oona O'Neill, are the parents three young children.
